Abstract
Facial recognition technology has recently become a vastly discussed topic. Although its use promises better security, it has gained many critics.
The new EU regulation on artificial intelligence even calls for its ban for certain uses. In the light of this proposed regulation and the rising controversy of this technology, it should be assessed whether the current legal framework provides a sufficient level of protection of our personal data collected by this technology.
For this purpose, the presentation will focus on live facial recognition which brings the most associations with surveillance. The presentation will analyze live facial recognition from the point of data privacy.
Firstly, the presentation will focus on live facial recognition technology and its risks. Secondly, the paper will look at the technology through the data processing principles and examine whether the use may be legitimate.
