Abstract

The book is a Czech translation of Niccolo Machiavelli's (1469-1527) Il Principe. The book also contains a translation of several shorter Machiavelli's texts that broaden the understanding of Machiavelli's masterpiece.

These include a letter to Vettori from the 10th of December 1513 about the composition of The Prince; To Palleschi also known as "Memorandum to the Newly Restored Medici"; A Description of the Method Used by Duke Valentino in Killing Vitellozzo Vitelli, Oliverotto da Fermo, and Others; and Ghiribizzi to Soderini. Apart from Machiavelli's texts, the book includes an introductory essay and a glossary of the key concepts.

These accompanying texts provide a historical introduction to the genesis of The Prince as well as explain key issues of Machiavelli's political thought including Machiavelli's notion of political theory, his relation to Machiavellism, and the role of violence and social conflict in Machiavelli's understanding of politics, to name just a few.
