The talk researches the question of the vanishing or absence of the subject, not to be understood as the proposition of some post-structuralist readings or the denial of subjectivity with a new realism might suggest. Rather the talk aims at the decentration of the subject as described by Klaus Kaehler, which is not just historical.

With Hans Lipps concept of the epochē it is illuminated how the subject can be accessed at all and how the search for it culminates in its withdrawl. Here, the encounter with the other plays a crucial role; therefore instead of subject the core concept should be the relation between subjectivity and alterity.

This relation gets further investigated on the basis of the phenomenon of pregnancy.
