Morally controverse topics in kindergarten

Abstract

The paper is a research probe exploring teachers' and parents' attitudes towards communication about controversial topics with preschool children. Through questionnaires it was investigated what topics should not be discussed in preschool from the point of view of parents and teachers, what topics should be discussed in preschool, and what topics the children themselves bring to the discussion.

The results showed, for example, that neither parents nor kindergarten teachers want sexual topics such as pornography, transsexuality or homosexuality to be discussed in kindergarten. On the contrary, the topics that both groups of respondents consider worthy of attention in kindergarten are violence, bullying and death.
