The main objective of this chapter is to describe and explain the methodological approach used in the book. Although each chapter has its own methodological section with a description of specific data and methods, we use a common spatial and time framework within the whole book.
Apart from the unified (carto)graphic visual presentation, the main purpose of a common methodological approach is to enable comparison of spatial processes forming the new socio-spatial differentiation in a wider spatial context. For time delimitation, we evaluate approximately the period of the last 20 years, which began with the new millennium.
For spatial delimitation, we use development within the administrative area of Prague and the Central Bohemian Region. It comprises not only the growing metropolitan area of Prague with its dynamic suburban settlements but several other medium-sized and small cities and towns with their own agglomerations, and inner peripheries of the rural areas with a stagnation or even decrease of population at the edge of the Central Bohemian Region.
