Word problems: "What numbers make sense?" aim to develop pupils' argumentation skills, to encourage discussion and cooperation, give an opportunity for interdisciplinarity and connects pupil's mathematical and language literacy. The problem is solved by filling in numbers into the text.
The results of experiments from two fifth grades show that pupils respond to this type of problem positively. They base their argumentation on how to fill in the numbers to the text correctly on the linguistic aspect and from the point of view of mathematics and the real-life context.
