Abstract
Today's energy crisis, sparked by Russia's unprecedented attack on Ukraine, has painfully reminded us of all our omissions in the area of energy security, while also showing us how costly dependence on fossil fuels is and how critical the preparedness of government and legislation to deal with energy crises is. While the main imperative today is to secure energy supply in a volatile and conflict-ridden, i.e. undersupplied, market with broken long-term links, we cannot forget the long-term goals that are now being overlooked.
