Abstract
The author explores ways of teaching ancient civilisation in Czech schools and ways of making it more efficient, as well as the ways of explaining to the students why knowledge of antiquity is highly important even in the present times. She presents many examples not only from the field of languages (internacionalisms that we use without deeper understanding and thus sometimes incorrectly) but also from general culture (how often we encounter ancient heritage that we understand thoroughly only when we get to know it well).
