During the time of the Thirty Years' War, a certain militarisation of rituals and ceremonies in civilian life took place. Additionally, however, typically military rituals took place within the military community, their participants and audience mainly members of the armies of the time.

While in many regards, the environment within armies at the time was similar to that of the civilian world, it did have certain peculiarities, different values and rituals which did not occur in the life of ordinary people outside the army. In this study, I am therefore focusing on the question of what specific ceremonial events soldiers in the Thirty Years' War experienced during their military career.
