2022

Abstract

The contribution aims to present the issue of the education of gifted and exceptionally gifted children. Gifted children belong to the group of pupils with special educational needs.

The text summarizes topics from the field of education of gifted and exceptionally gifted pupils that have appeared in the last five years (2016-2021) in Czech professional peer-reviewed periodicals. A qualitative research design was chosen for the review study, followed by a systematic review.

Sources were searched according to selected databases with subsequent identification of contributions (55 texts). As part of the analysis of the texts, categories of specific areas were created, which were further developed according to the content orientation.

The results of the study show that the authors mainly focus on theoretical studies that provide insight into the process of identification and subsequent diagnosis of a gifted student. Texts with an overlap of application into practice in regular teaching are sparsely produced, there is a lack of empirical investigations dealing with effective teaching methods, the organization of teaching gifted pupils, and examples of good practice.
