Elites on the settlement sites of the Late Roman Period in Bohemia? Case study Vrbová Lhota in the Nymburk region

Abstract

The lecture presented the preliminary results of the processing of a collection of mainly metal artifacts from the Late Roman Period, obtained by surface prospecting at a settlement site on the k.ú. Vrbová Lhota, Nymburk district.

The fact that it is a monocultural site represents an exceptionally suitable situation for the study of otherwise non-dateable waste from non-ferrous metallurgy, which apparently took place at the site. This can be proven by the finds of chopped up fragments of mainly romano-provincial artifacts (metal vessels and other objects).

The presence of objects made of precious metals (silver and gold) indicates the presence of elites. A numerous collection of Roman coins and Germanic and Roman jewelry makes it possible to establish well the chronological position and development of the settlement.
