Publication

Abstract

The study is a content analysis of Rudé právo daily (published by Communist party of Czechoslovakia) within the period of so called Prague Spring. The Rudé právo daily functioned as communist ideological instrument during the communist era.

However, the content analysis presented hereby is focused on news coverage in spring 1968, which was typical of weakening of censorship and increase in freedom of speech. The study reveals the changes of thematic agenda of Rudé právo.

The daily held core position in Czechoslovak media system and had strong thematic impact on the agenda of other media. The most important findings describe increasing coverage of Czech domestic events whereas the period after military invasion brought shift towards foreign affairs coverage and partial exclusion of Czech political agenda.
