Abstrakt
This paper discusses Wittgenstein's and Hegel's concepts of language. First, I reconstruct the so-called "private language argument".
Second, I make a distinction between language and speech. Then, I describe the development from external through egocentric to inner speech.
Finally, I present the main characteristics of inner speech. The thesis is that inner speech is a distinctive speech function that is different from external speech.
