Abstract
The author deals with the concept of evil in Hegel. First, she examines Hegel's logical concept of evil, thus she addresses Hegel's peculiarity that evil is, among other things, a category of logic.
The emphasis of the text, however, is on the concept of evil as conceived in Hegel's Groundworks. Here it becomes essential that Hegel knows two varieties of evil, the ancient on the one hand and the modern on the other.
The embodiment of modern evil for him is the figure of the hypocrite, which the author discusses. The hypocrite is so essential for Hegel because he represents a refusal to communicate and thus embodies the loss of trust in modern society.
