Too Little, Too Late: The Czechoslovak Political Prisoners' Perception of Transitional Justice

Publication at Faculty of Humanities |
2022

Abstract

The aim of the contribution is to bring closer the attitudes of former prisoners, especially those associated in the Confederation of Political Prisoners of the Czech Republic (KPV ČR), on the use of tools of transitional justice in the process of so-called coming to terms with the past. During the three decades of the post-war period, the organization pushed for various forms of settlement, including the Third Resistance Act and the creation of specialized tribunals inspired by the Nuremberg Trials.

It will be discussed how her ideas were transformed and to what extent she was successful in promoting them.
