Library as Part of Smart Cities

Publication at Faculty of Humanities |
2022

Abstract

Smart cities, the phenomena of the last decade, can be viewed from many different angles. In this contribution, an alumni of Information Studies and Librarianship of the Faculty of Art will ponder on the ways of grasping information design in public spaces.

We will focus on the design, wayfinding or values of public buildings, namely libraries, as part of modern cities. We may perceive these values as unimportant, minor, even redundant.

Is it even necessary to think about symbolic meanings in urban environment? Does usability and user experience find any importance in architecture of libraries? And what is in fact the role of libraries in society?
