Abstract
Did you know that in October 1742 the future fate of the Habsburg monarchy was decided in Kadan? No? Yet it did, and for a while Kadan was the centre of our monarchy. In the War of the Austrian Succession, all the powerful neighbours and their allies threw themselves at the young Queen Maria Theresa, who had just taken over.
In 1741, the French army occupied Prague and the Elector of Bavaria made himself King of Bohemia. The Austrian army marched into Bohemia to liberate it.
But the French sent reinforcements to the Prague garrison, which headed from Cheb to Kadana.
