Abstract

The aim of the article is to outline the evolution of mass media discourse as an object of study from its origins to its current state. An absolute prerequisite of mass media discourse's birth was the reintroduction of the notion 'discourse' in philosophy by M.

Foucault and its subsequent entry into other liberal arts. Mass media discourse study was formed at the junction between social sciences and linguistics, as media texts constitute one of the primary subjects of mass media discourse study.

Over the recent years, research, connected to mass media discourse, has drastically increased due to the rapid rise in mass media's involvement in all the areas of life, provoked by the development of the Internet and social media.
