Modern advanced in-situ methods can reveal details on the mechanisms of plastic deformation with exceptional spatial and temporal resolution. Acoustic emission detects elastic waves generated in the material due to the activation of deformation mechanisms.

Electron microscopy and ultra-high-speed imaging are able to record the dynamics and localization of these processes. In this work, these methods are applied to study novel complex metallic materials.
