Abstract

Intertextual references can be found throughout the work of the Austrian writer Peter Handke, including the work of the Czech poet Jan Skácel. Handke's references to Skácel are part of his treatment of his intense impressions from reading Skácel, to whom he felt a certain closeness.

This study explores the ways in which the poetics of Handke the writer and Skácel the poet are similar, through an analysis of Handke's texts containing direct references to Skácel's work and on the basis of Handke's own reflections on Skácel
