Czech secondary education is characterized by high differentiation. The study programs of high school education, secondary vocational education and secondary apprenticeship education differ not only in terms of educational goals and educational content, but also in the composition of pupils and the school climate.
International research shows that the attended program, as well as the peer group and family background, has a great influence on young people's ideas about their future life. These aspects differ greatly in individual programs.
The aim of this study is to find out how the ideas about the future life of Czech pupils attending the third year of secondary school education in different secondary school programs differ. The analysis used data obtained from 1,151 high school pupils, 2,216 pupils attending professional studies with a high school diploma and 1,504 students attending professional studies without a high school diploma as part of a representative CLoSE survey in 2018.
In addition to the knowledge and skills of the students, their educational aspirations, expected income and ideas about various aspects of their future life were collected. The research showed different ideas of students of different programs in terms of their educational aspirations, expected occupation and expected income.
Nevertheless, students of all study types had optimistic ideas about their future life, which differed little between individual programs.
