Language contact has long been acknowledged to be a major factor in the development of languages. It is of particular importance for the group of languages traditionally labeled as Altaic, whose speakers have shared, and migrated across, vast areas of Eurasia for centuries, influencing each other, as well as coming into contact with vastly typologically different languages.

Our workshop aims to bring together researchers in comparative linguistics, typology, and sociolinguistics to share and discuss their approaches to the Altaic language area with special focus on the contact phenomena.
