Abstrakt
Using the 3rd cent. CE text "Music has in it neither grief nor joy" (聲無哀樂論) by Ji Kang 嵇康 as a case study, the paper demonstrates how a failure to take into account broader ontological implications of a text coming from a different cosmological background can lead to misunderstandings and wrongly posed questions.
