Abstract
The development of Czech meteorological glossaries is closely related to the history of other glossaries. The now rediscovered list of about 500 Czech meteorological terms from 1931 was part of a multilingual dictionary of the French provenance.
B. Hrudička, who published a comprehensive list of terms in 1941, was one of the few pioneers of meteorological lexicography at that time.
The first serious attempt for a Czech glossary was related to the publication of the International Meteorological Vocabulary in 1966. Only a separate bio-climatological glossary was created, which was, however, quite a unique achievement at that time.
The completion of a meteorological glossary was delayed until 1987. It was published only in the first half of the 1990s, when a number of glossaries were published also in other countries.
After 2000, meteorological glossaries started to be published online. The Czech glossary was made available in this way in 2015, and four years later it reached a fully electronic form.
Thanks to the extent of its content and functions, it can rightly be ranked among the world's top meteorological glossaries, but there is still room for improvement, which would certainly be assisted through possible international cooperation.
