Soft tissue sarcomas are among rare diseases, the incidence of which in Europe is between 4-5/10,000 inhabitants. The European sarcoma task force published clinical practice recommendations for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with this group of heterogeneous tumors in the Annals of Oncology in 2012.
The basis of successful treatment is a multidisciplinary approach, in which pathologists, radiodiagnostics, surgeons, clinical and radiation oncologists, possibly pediatric oncologists should participate. Patient care should take place in centers with experience in an interdisciplinary approach, treating a large number of such patients annually and participating in clinical trials for this rare type of tumor.
Such centers should serve as referrals to which all patients with a suspected tumor mass located in the depth of soft tissues or with superficial lesions greater than five centimeters and all pediatric patients should be referred.
