The study examines the extent and types of correspondence between postmodifying prepositional phrases in Czech and their English translation counterparts, focussing on the factors which lead to the choice of non-congruent counterparts. The analysis relies on material drawn from the parallel corpus InterCorp.

Apart from the typological differences between the predominantly synthetic Czech and analytic English, the factors which may lead to the choice of a particular type of counterpart were also found to be related to the semantic relations between the head noun and the postmodifier, the syntactic structure of the noun phrase, the direction of translation, and register differences.
