Abstract

Although the purpose of the admission procedure is selecting the most suitable candidates, it can also show their level of knowledge. Therefore, we decided to analyse tasks in inorganic chemistry used in the admission procedure at the Faculty of Science, Charles University.

The parameters of each task (success rate, ULI(1/2) coefficient, RIR coefficient, instruction analysis) were compared one to another resulting in: (i) recommendations for effective usage of the specific tasks, (ii) a list of troublesome topics for applicants (ideal gas law) and (iii) a list of tasks with a low item discrimination (preparation and manufacture of compounds, observation of chemical reaction, etc.).
