Abstract

This study focuses on the description and analysis of the development of Agrarianist ideology in the Czech lands within the context of the late transformation of ideological currents at the end of the 19th century. While the liberal-nationalist conception at this stage had to include a critique of stagnation and the incapacity for further development, Agrarianism in the Czech lands endeavoured to fill this gap and provide a theoretical basis for the newly forming rural party.

Great use was subsequently made of the figure of Josef Dürich in view of his political transformation. Initially, this politician worked in the liberal-nationalist National Party, only to later become an elite representative of the Agrarians.

Thus his example is used to comment on the differences and some similar features between the two ideologies in the Czech political environment.
