Abstract

Didactic principles are general recommendations concerning the teaching process, including requirements for the organisation, course and effectiveness of education, the choice of didactic means and tools for the interpretation and presentation of the material to the students. Their knowledge and respect is one of the basic professional skills of a good teacher across all levels of the education system.

It can be an important support in the planning, preparation, implementation and evaluation of educational activities. Science education has certain specificities that naturally translate into thinking about how to teach science topics properly and also into thinking about didactic principles in science education.

What are the specifics of didactic principles in science education? This question was asked by a broad author collective (16 didacticians from 7 disciplines). Based on a transparent interdisciplinary discussion and a thorough literature search, the team identified 20 didactic principles to be applied in science education.

In the present paper, the systematic process of developing the methodology and its evaluation is described. The paper aims to serve as a model for similar academic work.
