n the poster session at the 5th Trends in Biology Didactics Conference, the recently published Didactic Principles in Science Education: a methodological guide for teachers of biology, chemistry, physics, geography, computer science, mathematics and environmental education (Jančaříková et al., 2022) was presented. Didactic principles are general recommendations concerning the teaching process, including requirements for the organization, course and effectiveness of education, the choice of didactic means and tools for interpreting and presenting the material to students.
Their knowledge and respect is one of the basic professional skills of a good teacher across all levels of the education system. It can be an important support in the planning, preparation, implementation and evaluation of educational activities.
Science education has certain specificities that naturally translate into thinking about how to teach science topics properly and also into thinking about didactic principles in science education. What are the specifics of didactic principles in science education? This question was asked by a broad author collective (16 didacticians from 7 disciplines).
Based on a transparent interdisciplinary discussion and a thorough literature search, the team identified 20 didactic principles to be applied in science education. The book explains and illustrates these with examples from practice.
The main aim of the authors' team is to provide a comprehensive view of the didactic principles in the new context of contemporary science education and to present them in a comprehensible way to the readers - pedagogical staff, subject didacticians or students of education. Students of full-time and combined studies in teaching evaluate their list positively.
