Beer in medieval sources of (Bohemian ) Cistercian monasteries

Publication at Faculty of Education |
2022

Abstract

Due to ther fragmentary state, the sources only give evidence on beer-brewing as an activity common to all monasteries, the beer having been a common beverage. Prior to 1420, most of the breweries' output was likely to have been for home consumption.

Beer assumed the role of a major ecoomic commodity only since the 16th century.
