Abstract

In the Afterword to the Czech translation of the novel Annihilate by the French writer Michel Houellebecq, the author traces the connection of some of the novel's motifs to the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer. Emphasis is placed on the closeness of the two authors, especially in relation to the understanding of nothingness.

Moreover, Houellebecq adopts from Schopenhauer the three paths to redemption - art, compassion and asceticism.
