Abstract

Word-forming components from classical languages are a very flexible and effective tool for marking facts during rapid global development. Modern language systems place great demands on the efficiency and internationality of new words.

New expressions must adequately respond to the changing reality of life and communication needs of users in connection with rapid civilizational changes. Both Latin and Greek offer means of expression that meet these conditions.

They can be easily combined with domestic and foreign components and are very productive. This brings a large number of advantages to language users, but at the same time the risk of overuse and gradual emptying of some words and the need to replace them with others.

From the point of view of speakers who continuously expand their vocabulary with new expressions, it seems very important that in this process they can use their previous knowledge and experience with word-forming components of Latin and Greek origin. The article aims to link some linguistic and linguo-didactic resources of Latin and Greek prefixes and prefixoids in Czech, with some overlaps into the English language.
