Both Apart and Side by Side : The Bohemian Estates and the Estates of the Lands of the Bohemian Crown on the Threshold of the Early Modern Age

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2021

Abstract

The publication maps in several author's chapters the ideas of the Bohemian Estates and Estates of other Crown Lands about the form and functioning of the Bohemian Crown at the beginning of the 16th century. It focuses primarily on the interest of the Bohemian Estates in the charters that documented the state-legal foundations of the Bohemian Crown, and in the case of the Estates of the other lands, on their land privileges and their relationship to the Bohemian King.

The Bohemian Estates included the demand for the preservation of the Bohemian Crown in their programme towards the monarch, which is evidenced not only by their electoral surrenders, but also by the fact that in 1501 they had an inventory of the documents stored in the Crown Archives (the so-called Registrum of Ten Coffers) made, which they dedicated and presented to King Vladislavus II. Jagello.
