Abstract

The study focuses on the impact of oil crises on Czechoslovak economy and on the attempts of the communist leadership to restore economic growth at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. Following the Soviet model a so-called comprehensive experiment in efficiency and quality was started.

Since 1981 a "set of measures" had been introduced to establish the administrative instruments inspired by first economic reform in 1958. The normalization leadership attempt to a social consensus ensured by relative wellfare failed.

In the normalization leadership of the Communist Party of the Czech Republic a current preventing any change prevailed.
