A suitable tool for the development of reading competence can be the graded readers (Adapted Czech Prose Edition).
First, the principles of teaching reading skills will be reviewed, including appropriate pre- and post-text activities that can significantly influence successful work with the text and, consequently, the development of overall language competence. In addition, the various volumes of the series will be used to show how general approaches can be applied to specific texts.
Finally, the relationship between reading Czech fiction and the socio-cultural competence will be discussed.
