Abstract

In this lecture, clinical psychologists Jaroslava Raudenská and Alena Javůrková focus on pain management and improving quality of life, including examples of inspiring interdisciplinary approaches.

Pain is considered to be an interplay between biological, psychological and social factors that are individual and subjective. Its treatment should include biopsychosocial aspects, which are usually only achieved by the care of the whole medical team. Art therapy, perceptual art, expressive therapies, Snoezelen or virtual reality can have beneficial effects on pain management and patients' mood by helping to distract them from the pain.

The research is part of the international programme AMASS - Acting on the Margin - Arts as a Social Sculpture, involving the Faculty of Education, UK and the 2nd Medical School, UK.
