Abstract

The article is focused on the work of French-speaking Canadian, writer, artist and illustrator Marianne Dubuc. In terms of interpretation, the study deals with works published in Czech translation by the Labyrinth publishing house (in the original: Le lion et l'oiseau; Je ne suis pas ta maman; Le chemin de la montagne; L'ombre de Petit Guépard; Ours et le murmure du vent).

Tolerance, friendship, cooperation, help in times of need and the meaning of human life are mostly thematized. The stories are mediated through a heterodiegetic narrator and the animal heroes are dominated.

Emotions of the personified animal characters can be unmistakably read from their facial expressions, which enables the reader's emotional participation. Therefore the titles being watched provide a suitable opportunity for the development of children's emotional intelligence.
