Abstract
The essay written for the supplement Orientace of the Czech daily newspaper Lidové noviny presents a sociological analysis of the transformation of Czech society after the collapse of the communist regime in 1989. The author argues that, contrary to the critical images of the nineties that appeared in the Czech press, television and new media, the balance of the first decade of the post-communist transformation was largely positive.
