Semiotics and Ideology is the outcome of a student conference of the same name held in 2020 at the Department of Electronic Culture and Semiotics at the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University. The papers were written in response to the following questions: How are we able to relate to such a broad concept as ideology? And how can we take a critical distance to it? Similar questions can be asked in relation to semiotics.
Here, the study of ideology goes beyond its boundaries, but at the same time it relates to it, explicitly or implicitly, and uses its conceptual apparatus. The collection consists of texts that attempt to grasp the concept of ideology theoretically from general perspective, but also of contributions that analyse the effects of ideology in specific fields, such as music or film.
The authors also touch upon issues related to critical thinking or big data ethics.
