Abstract

A number of Ukrainian volunteers, especially in 2014-2015 years, spent an admirable amount of ingenuity, invention, hard work and financial savings, and made a numerous and varied mixture of improvised military vehicles, usually built on the basis of some civilian car. These vehicles were often used by volunteer military units, which fought pro-Russian separatists in eastern and southeastern Ukraine.

Their wide range includes lightly modified passenger cars as well as really heavy armored vehicles made from trucks. At that time, the Ukrainian army was in bad shape - in terms of technology and also the quality of the officer corps.

Quite logically, improvisation had to come. The creations of Ukrainian "arms manufacturers from a garage" often resemble vehicles from the Mad Max film series, and can therefore also be perceived as quirky works of art.
