Abstract
This review of Paul Hammond's monograph criticises the fact that the author does not so much analyse Milton's verbal complexity as offers a number of essays regarding interpretations of individual themes and episodes in Paradise Lost. While appreciating a few examples of good close reading and Hammond's engagement with larger, often theologica,l contexts, it questions his method and incomplete bibliography.
