Abstract
The paper presented at the international conference "Entrepreneur versus Capital - Capital versus Entrepreneur" summarized the development of the pawnbroking profession in the Czech lands from the beginning of the 19th century to the 20th century. The paper presented the pawnshop in the lesser-known position of a money institution, which also provided business loans, especially to small and medium-sized companies.
