Abstract

Bohuslav Rieger was the only son of F. L. Rieger. He grew up between his older sister Maria, married to Václav Červinka, and younger sister Libuše, married to Albín Bráf.

After graduating from high school in Prague he went to study abroad for a year. He spent 1875/76 in Strasbourg, Paris and Halle an der Saale. There, in May 1876, he received reports of his grandfather František Palacký's death.

He studied at the Faculty of Law of the Prague University in 1876-79. In 1880 he received a doctorate in law in Prague. In the autumn of 1880 he went to Paris to study history at the École des Chartes, the Collėge de France and the École des Hautes Études.

After returning to Prague, he devoted himself to the career of a legal historian and university teacher.

In addition to literature, the paper draws mainly on the correspondence of Bohuslav Rieger and his parent from his studies abroad.
