Russian ‘Near Abroad’: Approaches to a Concept of Russian Neighborhood Policy towards the post-Soviet States

Abstract

The 'Near Abroad' concept deals with the solely Russian perspective, this paper raises the question whether the use of this concept in non-Russian research could be of any use? For example, although it looks like a neutral term, it inherently includes an ideological perspective. This paper will focus on how once neighborhood policy has evolved into hegemonial policy channelling great power ambitions of Russia.
