Abstract

This paper examines two episodes related to different ways of salvation in XVth century Russia. The first one has to do with the Jerusalem Typikon, whose spread in monasteries and urban temples shows that they used the same rules and that monastic ideals were perceived as significant for salvation.

The second episode is related to the "Homily on Various Ways of Salvation and on Repentance" that formed part of Izmaragd and Sophia Kormchaya and shows that there were alternative views about salvation in Russia, which did not involve church and monasteries.
