Abstract

The Constitutional Charter of February 29, 1920 is the basic constitutional document of the independent Czechoslovak state. Jan Kuklík follows the story of its creation and its fate up to 1948, when it was replaced by the so-called May 9 Constitution.

The first Czechoslovak constitution is connected with the creation of an independent state, but also with the fateful moments threatening independent Czechoslovak statehood in 1938/1939 and with the hope of its restoration in the years of the Second World War and after its end. The constitutional document from 1920 also served as one of the sources of inspiration for the preparation of the new Czech constitution in 1992.
