Abstract
The article focuses on the fact that trust between EU Member States, in particular in the respect of EU values as set out in Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union, is the basis for the successful functioning of the EU. This trust is from time to time undermined not only by some Member States but sometimes by the Union's institutions themselves.
This is particularly evident today with regard to respect for the value of the rule of law.
