Abstract

In the autumn of 2021, the Sixth Committee of the General Assembly considered number of agenda items covering different areas of international law. The highlight of the session was consideration of the topic Crimes against humanity, under which majority of States aimed at progress in the process of possible elaboration of convention on the basis of draft articles adopted by the International Law Commission already in 2019.

The outcome of negotiations on crimes against humanity, as well as on some other agenda items (The scope and application of universal jurisdiction and the UN Programme of Assistance in the Teaching, Study, Dissemination and Wider Appreciation of International Law) shows progressing politicization of the work of the Committee and, consequently, paralysis of its work and of the process of progressive development and codification of international law.
