Abstract

The account of a pilgrimage to Jerusalem written by the Utraquist priest Martin Křivoústý is one of the rare travel texts that has survived in two language versions - Latin and Czech. Up to the present, the work has only been analysed by scholars in its vernacular form, including the editions by Jaroslav Kolár and Vladimír Kajlik.

The edition of the Latin version, preserved in the codex H VI/3 at the Library of the Metropolitan Chapter of St. Vitus in Prague, forms the core of this study.

It is preceded by a comparative analysis with the Czech version, which clarifies the relationships between the two versions and better determines the route and timing of Křivoústý's pilgrimage. The article also focuses on the specifics of Křivoústý's travelogue, such as his interest in the landscape and his tendency to moralise, a result of his confessional orientation and priestly occupation.
